Emissions explained
Scope 1
Produced directly by an organisation's activities, facilities or operations. Examples include emissions from on-site fuel combustion in boilers, furnaces, vehicles, and any other equipment owned or controlled by the organisation.
Scope 2
Bought in through an energy supplier. These emissions are indirectly generated off-site from the energy sources used to power a business' operations. They are associated with the generation of electricity, heat or steam purchased and consumed by the organisation.
Scope 3
All other emissions in a business' supply chain, both incoming and outgoing. They are often the most extensive and challenging to measure because they include a wide range of activities, such as supply chain, employee commuting, business travel and product lifecycle emissions.
